New Year 30 Day Decaf Challenge

New Year 30 Day Decaf Challenge

New Year, New Brew! Start the year strong by joining our 30-Day Decaf Challenge! Discover what a month of decaf coffee can do for you.

Caffeine affects everyone differently. For some, one cup means jitters and sleepless nights. For others, caffeine tolerance changes over time—like in college, when we could drink coffee before bed and still sleep soundly. Now? Not so much!

Caffeine might give you that morning buzz, but it can also lead to energy highs and crashes. At Savorista, we’ve been there. Our decaf journey began during a high-stress period when we gave up caffeine. That stress is long gone, but our love for decaf remains. Why? We sleep better, wake up refreshed, and enjoy steady energy all day. Breaking the caffeine cycle wasn’t easy, but it was so worth it.

Are you ready to discover how a decaffeinated you feels?

A Coffee Lover’s 30 Days of Decaf Story

We caught up with Rachel Dillon, also known as the Cold Brew Chick, to talk about her experience taking a 30-day decaf challenge. As a cold brew enthusiast and podcast host, Rachel is no stranger to caffeinated coffee. But after noticing the effects of over-caffeination, she decided it was time to switch gears. She called her challenge “Please Drink Responsibly.” Curious to hear more, we asked Rachel about her journey:

Savorista: Rachel, why did you decide to switch to decaf for a month?

Rachel: Before I started Cold Brew Chick, I drank one cup of cold brew a day. But as my love for coffee grew, so did my caffeine consumption—to the point where skipping caffeine gave me withdrawal symptoms. I realized it was time to reset. Caffeine is a drug, after all, and something we should enjoy responsibly.

Plus, decaf coffee is still coffee! True coffee lovers appreciate coffee for its taste, not just its caffeine content. This challenge was a chance to explore the world of decaf and rediscover my love for coffee.

Savorista: Did you ease into it or go cold turkey?

Rachel: I weaned off a bit at first, but I didn’t experience major symptoms, so I went cold turkey pretty quickly. If you drink 5+ cups of coffee a day, I’d suggest reducing gradually. But if you’re a one- or two-cup kind of person, you could try cutting it out at once. Listen to your body and adjust as needed.

Savorista: How did you feel without caffeine?

Rachel: Honestly, great! Caffeine gave me an energy high followed by withdrawal lows. With decaf, my energy was steady all day—no afternoon slumps, no dependence on that next cup. The caffeine highs were gone, but so were the lows. It was a game-changer.

Savorista: Who do you think should take a caffeine break and try 30 Days of Decaf?

Rachel: Anyone feeling the unwanted effects of caffeine. If you’re crashing in the afternoon, getting jittery, or just not feeling that caffeine buzz anymore, it’s worth hitting reset. Even if you’re symptom-free, a caffeine break can help you tune into your body and reconnect with coffee in a new way.

Savorista: Any advice for people considering the challenge?

Rachel: Don’t think of decaf as a punishment. It’s an opportunity! Decaf lets you explore the flavors and nuances of coffee without the caffeine rush. If you’re a true coffee lover, you’ll enjoy coffee for what it is—not just what it does.

Your Month With Decaf: What To Expect

Everyone's experience of cutting out caffeine is different. Here are some of the things we've heard from coffee lovers on a 30-Day Decaf Challenge.

Week 1: The Transition Phase

  • Caffeine Withdrawal Symptoms: If you drink a lot of caffeine regularly, you may experience headaches, fatigue, or irritability as your body adjusts. These symptoms typically subside after a few days.
  • Improved Hydration: Without caffeine’s diuretic effect, your body may retain hydration better, leaving you feeling less parched throughout the day.

Week 2: Better Sleep Quality

  • Deeper, Restful Sleep: Many people notice falling asleep faster and sleeping more soundly without caffeine in their system.
  • Stable Energy Levels: Instead of the highs and lows from caffeine, you may begin to feel more even energy throughout the day.

Week 3: Reduced Anxiety and Jitters

  • Calmer Mood: Caffeine can trigger feelings of anxiety or restlessness in some people. By week three, you may feel calmer and more centered.
  • Improved Focus: Without caffeine-induced jitteriness, your ability to concentrate could improve too.

Week 4: Long-Term Benefits

  • Regulated Energy: Your body adapts to producing energy naturally, leading to consistent energy levels throughout the day.
  • Enhanced Taste Appreciation: With caffeine out of the equation, you may start to appreciate the nuanced flavors of coffee even more, especially with high-quality decaf options, like Savorista!
