Your Cold Brew Guide for Summer

Your Cold Brew Guide for Summer

Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer—and there’s no better way to kick off the season than with a glass of smooth, refreshing decaf cold brew. Whether you're hosting a backyard BBQ, hitting the road, or simply relaxing on the porch, cold brew is the perfect companion for warm days.

The best part? You don’t need fancy equipment to make it. Here’s how you can brew cold brew coffee at home, using what you’ve already got on hand: like a mason jar, or a French press!

How to Make Cold Brew in a Mason Jar

What you’ll need:

  • Coarsely ground coffee (about 1 cup) We recommend Colombian Inspiration.
  • Cold or room temperature filtered water (about 4 cups)
  • A mason jar or similar container with a lid
  • A fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth

Instructions:

  1. Add your coarsely ground coffee to the jar.
  2. Pour in the water and stir to ensure all grounds are saturated.
  3. Seal the jar and let it steep in the fridge (or on the counter) for 12–18 hours.
  4. Once brewed, strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean jar or pitcher.
  5. Serve over ice, diluted with water or milk to your taste.

How to Make Cold Brew with a French Press

What you’ll need:

  • Coarsely ground coffee (about 1 cup) We recommend Yesso! Espresso
  • Cold or room temperature water (about 4 cups)
  • A French press

Instructions:

  1. Add coffee grounds to your French press.
  2. Pour in the water and give it a gentle stir.
  3. Place the lid on (but don’t plunge yet!) and let it steep in the fridge or on the counter for 12–18 hours.
  4. After steeping, press down the plunger slowly and evenly.
  5. Pour over ice and enjoy! You can store any leftover cold brew in the fridge for up to a week.

Pro Tips for Better Cold Brew

  1. Grind matters: Use coarse-ground coffee to avoid over-extraction and bitterness.
  2. Steep time: 12–18 hours is the sweet spot. Less time may taste weak, while more can get too intense.
  3. Dilution: Cold brew is often stronger than regular coffee. Mix with water, milk, or your favorite dairy-free option to taste.

However you brew it, cold brew is an easy, low-effort way to elevate your coffee game this summer. So grab your favorite Savorista coffee beans and get brewing!
